The Director of Athletics Marketing & Event Experience is responsible for the planning, development and execution of comprehensive and strategic marketing & game presentation plans for the University of Miami athletics department, designed to maximize attendance and atmosphere at Hurricane home events. The Director reports to the Associate Athletic Director, Marketing & Event Experience and leads all phases of the men’s basketball marketing and game presentation plan including promotions, community outreach, advertising, student engagement and game day atmosphere, etc. This position oversees the assistant director of marketing, who is responsible for these same areas for women’s basketball, baseball and other sports as assigned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Plan and execute annual strategic marketing and game presentation plans , in conjunction with team staff and administration, for various Hurricanes athletic programs with a focus on increasing attendance and maximizing fan engagement. Serve as the primary marketer for Miami men’s basketball, with management and oversight of the Assistant Director of Marketing (women’s basketball, baseball). Serve as secondary marketing contact for football.

2. Plan and orchestrate the game day atmosphere as the primary show caller for men’s basketball and secondary producer for football. In charge of the script creation, selection of music, creation of public address announcements, scheduling of anthem singers and color guard, scoreboard announcements, student section engagement, crowd participation elements, pre-game/half-time entertainment, in-game features and promotions, and special recognitions.

3. In conjunction with video production and graphic design; plan and coordinate all video board content creation for assigned sports, including but not limited to; player video shoots, intro video shoots, in-game sponsorship features, in-game prompts & pump-ups, and other in-game features on the video board.

4. Collaborate with the corporate partnerships group to ideate and innovate new partnership elements to enhance the game experiences at Miami Athletics home events.

5. Collaborate with third party marketing group on planning and executing email strategy designed to motivate fans, engage students and create awareness of promotions.

6. Lead student-related marketing efforts for men’s basketball, in coordination with the Assistant Director of Marketing.

7. Follow established departmental policies and procedures for procurement of goods and services.

8. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

9. Other duties as assigned.

Department Specific Qualifications                                                                                

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Marketing or Sports Marketing. Master’s degree preferred.

Certification and Licensing:

N/A

Experience:

3+ years of experience in sports marketing and game presentation.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to work independently, set priorities and think critically.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Highly organized and multi-task orientated.

  • Experience with Click Effects Pro Audio & Daktronics Show Control systems.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills.
