Patrick & Henry Community College is a comprehensive two-year institution committed to student success, lifelong learning, initiating an atmosphere of care via our caring campus model, and enrichment of the quality of life in the region it serves. Serving Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County, and the southern portion of Franklin County, P&HCC is a comprehensive open-door institution, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Patrick & Henry offers 29 associate degree programs, 12 certificate programs and 38 career studies certificate programs. The college also delivers a variety of nontraditional programs such as customized workforce development training, industry-recognized certifications, developmental and transitional programs, and courses for personal enrichment.

Caring Campus is a collective effort to make students and employees feel welcome and connected to our college by instilling uplifting behaviors such as wearing name tags, warmly connecting students to necessary personnel, and openly engaging with students.

Purpose of Position:
This is a professional position working closely with high school personnel, community college stakeholders, and business/industry to help secondary students easily transition to postsecondary education and successful career pathways.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Advise and engage community college bound high school students and current community college students to support the college’s student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Guide and counsel high school students transitioning to community college.
  • Serve as academic advisor/ onboarding contact for Dual Enrollment students.
  • Serve as academic advisor on campus

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Education, training, and/or work experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Education or a related area that demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Knowledge of counseling and/or career development theory with emphasis on adolescents and career development.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; effective in communicating with students, administrative staff, faculty and parents.
  • Organization and data collection skills to track students who receive services; able to interpret and report data as required.
  • Skill in using computer software, internet for communication, data collection and research.
  • Ability to collaborate with both campus and high school personnel to provide services to students.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that might include evenings, and travel to and from campuses and employer partners in our service region for outreach services and follow-up services.
  • Ability to articulate college admissions process and help students in completing appropriate forms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.

Additional Considerations
  • Knowledge and experience with PeopleSoft, Canvas LMS, and other educational technologies; Experience with student advising, recruitment and presentations.
