Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will perform injury evaluations, appropriate medical treatment, and rehabilitation care for student-athletes for the assigned varsity team.

This position requires frequent travel, as well as evening and weekend hours.


Essential Functions

Provides appropriate medical treatment to injured or ill student-athletes and manages rehabilitation on athletic-related injuries as needed.

Refers student-athletes to appropriate medical facilities, including scheduling student-athletes for medical appointments.

Communicates with team physicians regarding treatment and follow-up care of student-athletes.

Documents injury reports, progress notes, and team physicians’ clinics in Fordham Sports Medicine injury tracking software.

Files and coordinates medical insurance claims for assigned student-athletes.

Coordinates preseason physicals with coaches, student-athletes, and team physicians.

Communicates on a daily basis with coaches regarding the status of their student-athletes.

Coordinates preventative injury programs while working with the strength and conditioning specialist.

Assists with oversight of the University drug testing program and coordinates in conjunction with the NCAA and the Center for Drug Free Sport.

Assists the Head Athletic Trainer with administrative duties as needed.

Assists with oversight of summer camps/clinics.

Complies with all NCAA, Atlantic 10, Patriot League, and University rules and regulations.

Guides work of other employees who perform essentially the same work and/or student workers. Organizes, sets priorities, schedules and reviews work, but is generally not responsible for final decisions in hiring, performance management or compensation.

Additional Functions

Operates University-owned or leased vehicles to transport students, staff, and/or equipment in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and insurance requirements.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Athletic Training

Minimum one year of experience as a certified trainer.

Current Board of Certification Athletic Trainer certification.

Currently licensed as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) in the state of New York.

Current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications.


Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

High-level organizational skills.

Demonstrated commitment and motivation to build a successful program.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications

One or more years of athletic training experience in a Division I intercollegiate athletic program.

Experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer at the collegiate level.

Valid driver’s license.


Minimum Starting Salary

$64,597.50

Maximum Starting Salary

$66,500.00

Note

Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
